Monday, nearly five weeks after playing in the NCAA Division 1 tournament in the U.S., Hofstra University center back Amy Turner signed with the Doncaster Rovers Belles of the new FA Women’s Super League. Turner played for the club before leaving in 2009 to attend Hofstra. Meanwhile on Tuesday, Birmingham City announced its 18-player roster, which includes former Chicago Red Stars forward Karen Carney.
Turner, a sophomore at Hofstra University (New York), played her final college game of the 2010 season on Nov. 14 against Boston College in the second round of the NCAA College Cup. Turner started all 22 games this season, finishing with four goals and four assists. She began her Doncaster career in 2007 after a stint at Sheffield United.
Tuesday, Birmingham City announced its roster for the upcoming FA WSL season. The group includes Karen Carney and her fellow England teammates Rachel Williams, Dunia Susi, and Laura Bassett. Also playing for Birmingham City will be Isobel Christiansen and Jade Moore, who played for England at the 2010 U-20 Women’s World Cup in Germany, and Irish international Steph Curtis.
