The 2010 Swedish Damallsvenskan champions LdB FC Malmö beat 2009 Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) champs Sky Blue FC, 1-0, in the finals of the International Tournament of Champions Saturday in Alanya, Turkey. Sarah Storck scored in the 12th minute for Malmö. Sky Blue FC earned a spot in the finals after a shootout victory over Danish Elitedivisionen champions Fortuna Hjørring. In the third-place match, Russian side FC Energiya Voronezh beat Fortuna Hjørring, 2-0.
Sky Blue FC scored on their ninth shot of the shootout against Fortuna Hjørring. The game-winner came from Kendall Fletcher. Then, Sky Blue keeper Jenni Branam came up with a huge stop after Fletcher’s goal to give her team the victory. During regulation, Fortuna took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Sine Hoveson before Allie Long tied the game for Sky Blue.
