The U.S. Women’s National team is seeking its third World Cup title, and leading up to the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany, the team is scheduled to meet several times to prepare for the tournament. The team begins with the Algarve Cup, which runs from March 2-9 in Portugal. A friendly against England, a couple exhibition matches, and a few more training camps follow.
Next up for the U.S. after the Algarve Cup is a trip to to the U.K. from March 21-April 7. The U.S. will play England on April 2 at Leyton Orient’s Brisbane Road Stadium in London. During the trip, the U.S. will train in Scotland from April 3-7. When the players return to the U.S., they will be available for the beginning of the 2011 Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) season.
From April 18-May 6, the USWNT will participate in a training camp in West Palm Beach, Florida. During that span, the players are scheduled to head back to meet up with their WPS teams and are available to play for their WPS teams. From May 9-18, the USWNT will train and play two friendlies in the U.S. (location and opponents have yet to be determined).
The USWNT heads back into training camp on May 30 through June 5 and will play another friendly, a sendoff game, on June 5. The team is scheduled to head to Europe on June 14. After a break from June 6-13, the U.S. is scheduled to train in Austria from June 15-23 before heading to Dresden, Germany on June 23. The 2011 Women’s World Cup begins on June 26 and runs through July 17. Their first match in the World Cup is June 28 against North Korea.
WPS is taking a two-week break during the World Cup. There will be no WPS games played between June 23 and July 5.
