Germany: Potsdam stays on top due to Bajramaj resurrection

No less than five makeup games were scheduled for the middle of this week in German Bundesliga. Turbine Potsdam defended its place on top of the standings Tuesday after a 5-2 win at SC Bad Neuenahr. Potsdam led 2-0 at halftime, but Bad Neuenahr equalized until the 60th minute. The match winner for Potsdam was Lira Bajramaj (she was taken out on Sunday, a major injury was suspected,  even the World Cup participation was endangered, according to reports). But on Monday, the relieve followed as Bajramaj played and scored four goals against Bad Neuenahr.

Closest challenger 1.FFC Frankfurt followed on Wednesday, beating FF USV Jena, 3-0. Swede Jessica Landström breaking the scoreless draw. Kestin Garefrekes and Conny Pohlers added the goals for the win.

Also, FCR Duisburg still has slim chances in the title race after a 4-0 win over Herforder SV. The surprise of this game was that Inka Grings did not score. Jennifer Oster scored two, and by this had a major impact in the game.

Bayern Munich climbed to the fourth spot in the meantime after a 5-0 road win at 1.FC Saarbrücken. Austrian Nina Aigner scored a pair, which made the host team tremble. Only one point is the lead in the relegation race over FF USV Jena, which has one game more to play. Bayern Munich just had one reason to worry: Sarah Puntigam was ejected after 67 minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct.

In an important game for the relegation race, SG Essen-Schönebeck and Bayer Leverkusen tied, 1-1. Lisa Schwab cared for the lead for the road team short after the break, while Caro Hamann equalized after an hour.

In news off the pitch this week, American defender Kat Tarr extended her contract with Essen for two further years. Tarr previously played for the Buffalo Flash of the USL W-League.
