Forward Stephanie McCaffrey re-signed with the Boston Breakers for the 2016 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) the club announced on Monday.
“I am delighted to be re-signing Stephanie,” Boston Breakers general manager Lee Billiard said. “We fought hard to get her in the draft because we knew what her capabilities and upside were, and she showed that in her rookie year in the NWSL, and now is showing at the national level. In my opinion, she is going to be one of the top attacking threats in this league, and I’m glad she will be doing it in a Breakers jersey.”
The Chicago Red Stars traded McCaffrey to the Breakers after selecting her as the No. 5 overall pick in the 2015 NWSL College Draft in exchange for the No. 9 and No. 11 overall draft picks.
McCaffrey made her debut for the senior U.S. Women’s National Team in a 3-1 win over Brazil on October 25, scoring in second-half stoppage time. She has been called up for the remainder of the matches in the USWNT’s Victory Tour.
The Massachusetts native played collegiately at Boston College.
