After playing one season in Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS), 23-year-old forward Caitlin Miskel is taking her skills overseas. The University of Virginia grad is headed to Iceland to play for Valur of Iceland’s top-flight league Úrvalsdeild. Valur has won the Úrvalsdeild five years in a row and six times in the last seven years.
Miskel saw action in three games last season for the Freedom. She was a seventh round pick in the 2010 WPS Draft and made her WPS debut May 30 in a 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Independence. Miskel also played in the W-League for the Washington Freedom Futures. Miskel will join her former Freedom teammate Meagan McCray in Iceland. Last month, McCray also signed to play for Valur. In her four-year career at the University of Virginia, Miskel scored 18 goals and had 18 assists.
