Sky Blue FC will head to Turkey in March to play in a four-team exhibition tournament. The WPS club will face LdB FC Malmö of Damallsvenskan, Russian club FK Energiya, and Fortuna Hjørring from Denmark. At the tournament, LdB FC Malmö will officially loan out Therese Sjögran to Sky Blue FC, according to the Swedish club.
Sjögran will be out on loan from LdB FC Malmö, the 2010 Damallsvenskan champions, from March through August 2011. Sjögran has played for LdB FC Malmö since 2001 (63 goals in more than 200 appearances). A member of the Swedish National Team since 1997, Sjögran has more than 200 caps and 18 goals for Sweden.
“LDB FC constantly works towards developing the organization and club. We look for new partnerships with organizations both nationally and internationally,” LDB FC General Manager Niclas Carlnen said. “That we now with Sky Blue FC, one of the best and most stable organizations in WPS both on the field and economically of the field, can start a partnership on several levels is very interesting.”
Sky Blue FC will train in the host city of Antalya, Turkey. That’s also where the tournament will take place. Sky Blue FC will leave for Turkey on March 12 and return to the U.S. on March 21. The club will compete in the tournament on March 17 and 19, and will play an exhibition match against FK Energiya on March 15.
