Former FC Gold Pride midfielder Becky Edwards has signed with the WNY Flash of Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS). The 22-year-old recently was called up by the U.S. U-23 team for its mid-December training camp at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Edwards joins a Flash team that last week acquired Swedish international Caroline Seger and U.S. Women’s National Team midfielder Yael Averbuch.Edwards played in 24 games (20 starts) last year for the WPS Champions. She scored one goal and had one assist and played 1,815 minutes. The former Florida State University star was selected 12th overall in the 2010 WPS Draft.
The WNY Flash roster currently has 14 players, including Edwards, Seger, Averbuch, Canadian internationals and former FC Gold Pride players Christine Sinclair and Candace Chapman, as well as former Gold Pride defender and 2010 WPS Rookie of the Year Ali Riley, McCall Zerboni, Ashlyn Harris, Whitney Engen, Brittany Cameron, Brittany Bock, Kandace Wilson, Beverly Goebel, and Kaley Fountain.
