Defender Casey Short has signed with the Chicago Red Stars for the 2016 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season. Short most recently played for Avaldsnes IL in the Toppserien, Norway’s top tier for women’s soccer, and was named one of the Top 11 in the league at the 2015 NISO Awards.
“I have waited three years to be able to have Casey in the squad,” said head coach Rory Dames. “She just finished a great year in Norway and now she can finally return home and become a Red Star. She will slide straight into one of our outside back spots and give us the attributes we look for in those spaces.”
Originally drafted by the Boston Breakers during the 2013 NWSL College Draft, Short missed the entire season due to a knee injury. Thereafter, Chicago acquired the rights to Short from Boston in exchange for the No. 11 overall pick in the 2014 NWSL College Draft and a third-round pick in the 2015 NWSL College Draft. However, Short missed the season after tearing her ACL before the start of the Red Stars’ 2014 season.
